Stuttgart ATP 250: Berrettini and Kyrgios return to the courts as French players face tough draw

On the eve of the Roland-Garros final between Novak Djokovic et Casper Ruud, it’s already time to look ahead to the grass season. It starts this Monday with the ATP 250 of Stuttgart. Always endowed with a nice line-up, the German tournament has seen players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem or Matthew Berrettini, title holder. This year is no exception to the rule, with the presence in south-west Germany of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios or evenHubert Hurkacz. The draw, carried out this Saturday, was not kind to the four French players involved.

Complicated draw for the tricolors

After a terrible Roland-Garros, lThe French will try to get good results on grass. The task will be difficult in Stuttgart for the four blues present. Richard Gasquet will start against a qualifier but he could face Stefanos Tsitsipas from the second round in case of victory. Berrettini and Kyrgios on their way back

This 2023 edition of the tournament of Stuttgart will also mark the return of two big names on the circuit, Nick Kyrgios et Matthew Berrettini. The Aussie, who hasn’t played in over eight months, will face the Chinese Wu Yibing. As for Berrettini, he will start against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, in what will perhaps be the shock of this first round. Also note the presence of the always dangerous Jan-Lennard Struff who inherited the Chinese Zhizhen Zhang. The first four seeds of this tournament are exempt from the first round. The lucky ones are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Hubert Hurkacz.
