Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Every second Hesse volunteers in his spare time. This is the result of the first findings of a study by the state government, as the head of the state chancellery, Axel Wintermeyer (CDU), said on International Volunteer Day (Monday). As a result, young people in particular work more often than average in honorary posts.

“This commitment is invaluable to our company,” Wintermeyer said. Hesse is a voluntary state. “People here get involved, lend a helping hand and make a significant contribution to the cohesion of our society,” the minister said.

The precise results of the study commissioned by the Offenbach Institute for Vocational Training, Labor Market and Social Policy should be available in May next year. According to the state government, the study serves as a basis for decisions about future subsidies.

According to the finance ministry, Hessen is planning around €23.4 million in the next double budget for 2023 and over €23.5 million for 2024 to support volunteering. The “Patellina open to volunteering” campaign started on Sunday, where volunteers can win 500 euros a week for their project.
