Studio Trigger refused to remake Rebecca in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners: “Loli must stay”

Studio Trigger, creator of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, has dismissed CD Projekt Red’s concerns about Rebecca’s character. Live, a CDPR producer admitted that Rebecca’s particularly childlike design caused problems during the production of Edgerunners, but Studio Trigger still decided to stick with her original image of her.

According to the developers of CDPR, the studio went so far as to say that “loli should stay” when some members of the company voted to remove her entirely from the anime. Regardless, both teams appear to be on the same page now, with the developer claiming that Rebecca is the “best girl”.

She is the best girl. But I feel a little guilty saying this because I was one of the people on the creative team who actually voted to have Rebecca cut from the original cast during pre-production.

Going into more detail, it turns out why the developer of Cyberpunk 2077 was wary of the character.

CD Projekt Red first got the character design for Rebecca and they said “She’s a loli. Loli doesn’t exist in Night City. She doesn’t fit the Cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic.” But Trigger was told: “No, the loli should stay”.

Sure, how can see in the clip, the conversation is very lighthearted, so this is unlikely to be the situation. However, it shows that some in the company didn’t really like Rebecca’s design during the making of the show, especially since she looked quite young compared to the rest.

Of course, the show goes to great lengths to establish that Rebecca is not a child as soon as she is introduced. As many fans have pointed out, she also doesn’t sound very childish in the English dub, and she also doesn’t become a love interest during the show. Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that her design is noticeably smaller and childish.
