Students expel European diplomats from West Bank museum

Ramallah. Students at a Palestinian university in the occupied West Bank expelled a group of European Union (EU) diplomats from a museum on Tuesday and denounced their positions on the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The EU delegation in the Palestinian Territories regretted that a meeting of its diplomats had been “aggressively disrupted by a group of students.”

Videos spread on social networks showed the consul general of Italy, Domenico Bellato, hastily leaving the Palestinian museum in Birzeit, a dozen kilometers from Ramallah.

“The student movement rejected these visitors coming to the museum, due to their position on the genocide in Gaza. That’s why we asked them to leave,” Omar Kayed, a student representative, told AFP.

According to a person present at the scene, the crowd was looking for a diplomat from Germany, a country criticized for its arms deliveries to Israel.

Another video showed a vehicle blocked by protesters, some of whom banged on its windows and threw objects at it.
