Student Suffers Broken Throat from Dangling Cable in Jakarta: Calls for Responsibility and Action

Jakarta

It’s been seven months, a student of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Malang, Sultan Rif’at Alfatih (20) can’t live normally. This is because the young man from Bintaro suffered a broken throat due to a dangling cable that entangled his neck, on Jalan Pangeran Antasari, South Jakarta, last January 5 2023.

Acting Governor of DKI Heru Budi Hartono has spoken about what happened to the Sultan. Heru asked that in the future there will be no more messy optical cables on the streets of the Capital City.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission D DPRD DKI Jakarta from the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Fraction Hardiyanto Kenneth deeply regretted the acting DKI Governor Heru Budi’s cold attitude regarding the accident case.

“I think that what the Acting Governor said was very inappropriate, because it was very normative. The Acting Governor should have been firm, someone had to be responsible for this incident, because there were already victims,” said Kent, in a written statement, Saturday (29/7/2023 ).

“I, as a member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD who is also part of the DKI Jakarta regional government, feel shocked and disappointed to hear the PJ Governor’s statement which is very normative as if it were hands off, he should have been firm in taking a stand, the government must be present in this incident,” he continued. .

The man who is familiarly called Bang Kent asked the number one person in Jakarta to be able to trace the vendor who owns the optical cable, so that he can immediately collect responsibility.

“You have to find out who the vendor of the optical cable is? There must be responsibility, it was due to negligence which resulted in the cable dangling, I am sure the cable lacks maintenance and added to the weather factor which causes the cable to dangle down and cause unpleasant events like this, ‘ said Kent.

If the vendor is not responsible for the incident, Kent suggests that the victim’s family report to the police regarding the disaster that befell the Sultan.

As stated in Article 360 of the Criminal Code, that is because of negligence causing other people serious injuries. The article reads ‘anyone who because of his negligence causes a person to be seriously injured is punished with a maximum imprisonment of five years or a maximum imprisonment of one year’.

“You can report it to the police, if the victim’s family really wants to demand justice and do not accept what happened to the Sultan, if the vendor does not have good faith or is responsible. This is done so that similar incidents do not happen again in the future,” said Kent.

A similar accident has also occurred on Jalan Brigjen Katamso, Palmerah, West Jakarta. As a result, the driver, known as Vidam, had to suffer a head injury and was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.

“I emphasize again, DKI Pemprov must warn vendors to patrol their optical cable that is almost or has already dangled onto the main road, because it is very dangerous for motorists. I don’t want the Sultan’s incident to happen again,” said Kent.
