Between September 2 and September 8, the average number of corona infections rose to 588, a sharp increase of 29 percent compared to the week before.

For the seventh day in a row, the average number of corona infections in our country shows an increase. The latest daily figures, from Monday and Tuesday, show high figures: 900 infections were reported on Monday, 797 on Tuesday. That is comparable to the peak of the second wave, on 10 August. Then 873 infections were reported in one day.
The total number of infections since the start of the epidemic amounts to 91,537 cases.
On Friday there was still an increase of 22 percent and Steven Van Gucht of Sciensano spoke of ‘a small acceleration in the increase’. That acceleration therefore seems to continue.
The average number of hospital admissions also increased further to 22.3, an increase of 6.6 percent. A total of 19,239 have been included in our country for covid-19.
The number of deaths continues to fall slightly, by 0.9 percent to 2.6. The total number of fatalities now stands at 9,919.
In our country there are currently 63.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants (+8 percent).
