Strong Dividend Yield Competition, Bukit Asam’s Most Tempting!

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaTowards the end of May 2022, several issuers of shares with large market capitalization announced that they would distribute dividends for the performance of the 2021 financial year.

There are three stock issuers with a market capitalization of more than Rp 50 trillion which announced the distribution of dividends at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) the last two days.

They are PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG) from the tower and telecommunications sector and two state-owned mining companies, namely PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) and PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA).

In the AGMS held on May 23, 2022, TBIG agreed to distribute cash dividends of Rp 815.7 billion or equivalent to 52.7% of net profit for the 2021 financial year.

The dividend value per TBIG share is IDR 36. TBIG’s dividend payment for the 2021 financial year is an 18% increase from the 2020 financial year which is only IDR 692 billion.

It is undeniable that the improvement in the company’s performance over the past year as reflected in an increase in net profit of 53.4% on an annual basis also had an impact on the company’s decision to distribute dividends.

If using the cum date dividend price, the yield of TBIG is 1.2% or down from the previous year which was 1.5%. This decline was due to TBIG’s share price rising throughout 2021.

On Tuesday (24/5/2022), ANTM’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) decided that the company would distribute dividends of Rp 930.87 billion or equivalent to 50% of 2021 net profit.

The value of dividends to be distributed by ANTM is even 2x larger than the amount of dividends in 2020 which was only IDR 402 billion. This was due to the very high increase in ANTM’s net profit.

For information, ANTM’s net profit in 2021 reached Rp 1.86 trillion. ANTM’s net profit recorded an increase of 62% from 2020 which reached Rp 1.15 trillion.

ANTM’s dividend per share was recorded at IDR 39 for the 2021 financial year, an increase of 131% from the fiscal year which was only IDR 17.

Although ANTM’s share price has increased, the increase in the value of the dividends paid has made yields increase from 0.72% for the 2020 financial year to 1.7% for the 2021 financial year.

Finally, PTBA decided to distribute dividends worth Rp. 7.91 trillion or 100% of its net profit in 2021.

This was done because it took into account PTBA’s cash flow, which was still quite large at Rp 13 trillion last year and an increase in net profit of more than 3x.

As an illustration, last year PTBA distributed dividends worth Rp 835 billion, equivalent to 35% of the 2020 financial year net profit which reached Rp 2.4 trillion.

PTBA’s dividend payment is the largest compared to TBIG and ANTM both in terms of nominal and ratio payout.

The dividend value per PTBA share reached IDR 687 for the 2021 financial year, an increase of 827% from the 2020 financial year which was only IDR 74.

In this way, the dividend yield of PTBA shares also experienced a very sharp increase from 3% in the 2020 financial year to 25.3% for the 2021 financial year.

Even if an investor buys PTBA shares in today’s trading, Wednesday (25/5/2020) at a price of Rp. 4,400/unit, the yield obtained is still very attractive, which is 15.6%.

The increase in commodity prices, especially energy and mineral mining throughout 2021, has indeed become a positive catalyst for the performance of the mining business.

This factor also caused both the revenue and net profit of mining companies to increase.

Finally, there is the issuer of the Saratoga group, PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika, which is ready to distribute dividends of Rp. 800 billion, which means that per share will receive Rp. 180, whereas last year MPMX distributed dividends of Rp. 496 billion, of which per share received Rp. 115.

With the current price at IDR 1,335/unit, it means that investors will receive a return of 13.48%. This figure decreased slightly from last year’s yield at the close of trading cum date, which was 13.85%.
