Stripe through festival summer, do you get your money back for a second-hand ticket?

More than 10300 festival tickets for four multi-day festivals have changed hands in recent months via Ticketswap. People who bought a ticket via this platform fall into two groups. One group has bought tickets for festivals with which Ticketswap has a collaboration. This concerns, for example, Mysteryland and Decibel, organized by ID&T. This group of cardholders will receive a refund via Ticketswap. They do not need to contact the original seller.

In the second case, it concerns people who have bought a second-hand ticket for a festival organized by Mojo Concerts, such as Lowlands and Down The Rabbit Hole. Ticketswap is not affiliated with Mojo. The original cardholders will be automatically refunded the money to the account with which they paid for the ticket, even if they have already resold their ticket.

Fair refund

Ticketswap would like to see buyer and seller come to an agreement. Ticketswap co-founder Hans Ober says he expects this to work in most cases. “We set up the conversation between the seller and the buyer so that together they can reach a fair distribution of the costs of the festival ticket and the service costs of Ticketswap. The seller will receive notifications of this via SMS or e-mail.”

But that won’t work in all cases, let people know on Twitter. Some are unable to contact the seller, others see an error message on the used ticket provider’s website. Zakaria Taouss from Amsterdam is one of them. Taouss says he took part more than 300 times before he obtained a Lowlands ticket via the platform. He paid 285 euros for it, 65 euros more than the original price. “That boy has earned something from it, and now I can’t get in touch with him.”
