Storms Cause Flight Delays and Terminal Closure at LaGuardia Airport

(CNN) — Storms are affecting flights at LaGuardia Airport this Friday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration is holding back flights at LaGuardia due to flooding preventing ground crews from accessing parts of the ramps.

The agency’s latest advisory says there is flooding at the “fuel farm” and “marine area terminal.” The FAA has warned airlines to “expect possible delays in arrivals at LGA Airport due to (thunderstorms) and flooding affecting the terminal.”

At the moment there are very few cancellations, but delays are increasing very quickly. One in five flights bound for LaGuardia are currently experiencing delays and one in ten departing flights are experiencing delays, according to FlightAware.

The Port Authority, which runs the airport, says it has closed LaGuardia’s smallest terminal, Terminal A, due to “bad weather.”

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency throughout New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley due to extreme rainfall this Friday across the region.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, The governor said, “Please take steps to stay safe and remember to never attempt to travel on flooded roads.”
