Storm “Sabine”: Hamburg’s fish market under water – six dead across Europe

Many schools remain closed

In several federal states, parts of the schools are closed on Monday.

Lower Saxony and Bremen

As the authorities announced on Sunday evening, the general education schools and vocational schools in Wilhelmshaven as well as in the districts of Northeim, Goslar, Oldenburg, Osnabrück, Diepholz, Schaumburg, Hameln-Pyrmont, Hildesheim, Holzminden and Göttingen and the Emsland are affected. The schools in Bremerhaven, Delmenhorst, Bad Bentheim and Emsland should also remain closed.

Bavaria

In at least 20 districts and independent cities in Eastern Bavaria, Upper Franconia and in the southwest, school administrations completely canceled classes at all state schools for Monday. Most schools will provide emergency care for students who cannot be cared for by their parents, a spokesman for the ministry of culture said.

NRW

A number of cities drop out of classes at their schools – including Cologne, Düsseldorf, Essen, Aachen, Mülheim and Gelsenkirchen. On Sunday, Münster, Dortmund and other districts and municipalities also joined shortly.

Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland

Lessons can be canceled at schools. The ministries of education of the two countries announced that parents or adults of full age can make their own decision whether the way to school is reasonable. “In the case of absenteeism, the school must be informed,” it said in the message from Saturday. If necessary and possible, emergency care is provided in the schools. The schools decide whether classes are canceled. The school management then informs about agreed communication channels if necessary.

Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg

The schools are said to be open, other regulations may apply in individual cases.
