Storm “Bianca”: rail traffic in Bavaria impeded – Bavaria

Snowfall, slippery conditions and gusts of wind have caused disabilities in rail traffic and numerous accidents in large parts of Bavaria. However, according to the police, most accidents went off lightly. Fallen trees and blackouts kept the emergency services busy. According to a spokeswoman, the railway was working flat out to rectify the problems. However, some sections of the route can only be finally released on Friday in daylight. In many places the situation calmed down from midnight.

There were massive restrictions and line closures in regional rail services. A tree had fallen into the track on the Nuremberg – Regensburg line. Therefore, no train traffic was possible between Feucht and Ochenbruck since 5.30 a.m., the trains were held back at the train stations. The route was released again around 7 a.m.

The railway line between Nuremberg and Würzburg was opened again at night. However, there could be further delays, it said. The sections between Nuremberg and Treuchtlingen and between Rosenheim and Salzburg initially remained closed. The railway also ceased operations in the so-called Werdenfels network. There are no trains between Munich and Murnau, Munich and Kochel, Murnau and Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grießen. Rail replacement traffic with buses has been set up between Murnau and Starnberg. The S6 of the Munich S-Bahn only runs to Starnberg.

In Würzburg, inner-city bus traffic was stopped for safety reasons for the night due to the weather. According to the Red Cross, four long-distance trains stranded there in the evening. Aid organizations took care of the travelers.

In the evening between Nuremberg and Stuttgart, an IC train had to stop in Leutershausen in central Franconia, as a spokesman for the Deutsche Bahn said. Around 200 travelers had to wait around an hour before the train could go to a nearby train station. The reason was a tree that had crashed into the track.

In Upper Franconia, the climbs and descents along the A 9 and A 70 in the districts of Bayreuth, Kulmbach and Bamberg were particularly affected by the winter weather, as the police said. Especially on the A 9 south of Bayreuth, lorries and articulated lorries kept getting stuck on the snowy slopes of Sophienberg, Spänflecker Berg, Bronner Senke and Hormersdorf, turned sideways, slipped away and blocked the motorway.

Also on the A 70 in the direction of Bayreuth, traffic came to a standstill in the evening for around two hours on the Würgauer slope bridge due to several trucks standing sideways. In a total of twelve accidents in Upper Franconia, there were no injuries, just sheet metal damage. A section of the A71 from Thuringia towards Schweinfurt was also blocked by truck after an accident.

In the Upper Palatinate, the storm overturned several trees. The police also count around 40 traffic accidents due to slippery roads. People were slightly injured. In Blaibach in the Cham district, a tree tore off a power line, which led to the full fire of a transformer house. Around 50 households are therefore still without electricity.

The storm led to power cuts in the entire network area of the Bayernwerk from Lower Franconia to Upper Bavaria. Around midnight, around 40,000 households were affected. Most households could be supplied again by 3 a.m.
