Supermarkets need to stop lowering the price of fresh food. A majority in the House of Representatives wants the cabinet to ensure an end to steep price cuts on fruit, vegetables, dairy and meat.
The House of Representatives believes the price stunts mean farmers aren’t getting enough money for their produce. Supermarkets can still discount food products close to their expiration date.

In countries like France and Belgium, they are already dealing with the price stunts of fresh food. And in the Netherlands, since the summer of 2021, no more than 25% discounts can be granted on alcoholic beverages.
Parties like ChristenUnie, CDA, PvdA, Volt and BBB have now called on the cabinet to prevent stunting even with agricultural commodities. The government must now process this request.
