“Stop attacking us, we are not the virus,” the Asian community in the United States cries in the streets

Hundreds of people marched through the New York borough of Queens this Saturday to denounce racism against Asians. The United States has experienced a dozen mass shootings in recent weeks that have targeted this community.

The March 16 shooting in Atlanta killed eight, including six women of Asian descent. The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled hate crimes against Asian Americans, due to certain unfounded ideas.

“All the people I know who are Asian have been victims of violence, harassment and assault. They spit on us, yell at us, stare at us. People turn away when they see us. People think we have the coronavirus. But I don’t I’m more likely to get the virus than you or anyone else “

Organizers of the movement held demonstrations in some 60 American cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and Portland.

Several men have also been charged with hate crimes in separate incidents that targeted the Asian community. This occurs amid a wave of violence since the pandemic began in the country.

In San Francisco, Victor Humberto Brown, 53, appeared in court for the first time after authorities said he had repeatedly beaten an Asian-American man at a bus stop while yelling an anti-Asian insult. Brown was originally booked on a misdemeanor, but prosecutors recently elevated the case to a felony, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

In Seattle, according to court documents, Christopher Hamner, 51, yelled expletives and threw objects at a woman stopped at a red light with her two children, ages 5 and 10, on March 16. Three days later, authorities say Hamner cut off another car driven by an Asian woman, verbally harassing her and throwing objects at her car. He was charged with three counts of serious harassment.
