The Malieveld was damaged last year by two major farmers protests. Tractors, trucks and pick-up trucks left deep tracks under the trees. The lawn itself had to be reseeded. That was repaired at the expense of companies in the agricultural sector.
Arrests
Two people have been arrested. It is not clear why they were arrested. The police will come at the end of the day with an overview of the progress of the demonstration.
Earlier in the morning, there was an incident in which dozens of farmers drove through the central reservation, towards a line with police vans. A few hikers managed to slip through that blockage. The farmers felt they should park too far from the protest location. After consultation, they were allowed to drive on and park their vehicles a little further.
Signs such as ‘Don’t fuck the farmer’ and ‘we are unwanted’ hang on the tractors. Some farmers also hang an inverted Dutch flag on the vehicle, as a sign of protest. The demonstration was organized by the Farmers Defense Force action group.
The Benoordenhoutseweg, where the tractors are parked, will be closed to traffic, the police said.

Driving style
Rijkswaterstaat warns motorists to be alert to possible agricultural vehicles and recommends that they adjust their driving style if necessary. The Benoordenhoutseweg in The Hague is closed in both directions due to the demonstration, reports Rijkswaterstaat.
The action causes delays on roads in the vicinity of The Hague. Near Wassenaar, there is a lot of delay on the N44 by tractors on their way to the farmers protest in the center of The Hague. Traffic can also be hindered on the A12, the ANWB reports.
This also means delays on the N11 (Bodegraven – Leiden). There is a traffic jam of 3 kilometers at Alphen aan den Rijn. There is a traffic jam between Bergambacht and Gouda on the N207 from Bergambacht to Alphen aan den Rijn.
