Still a second chance for those who do not accept the invitation of vaccination, ‘after all other groups’

Dirk Dewolf, CEO of the Agency for Care and Health, said last week that those who refuse his vaccine will definitely lose their place in the vaccination campaign. “There is no vaccine shopping in Flanders. (…) It is a bit harsh to put it that way, but it is food that comes to the rescue ”, he said.

This statement raised eyebrows among several members of parliament, both from majority and opposition. If we want as many people as possible to get vaccinated, shouldn’t you give people who change their mind a ‘second chance’? For example, it may be that people have been put off by the stories about Astra-Zeneca, but it may be that those people have changed their minds in the meantime. “It seems important to me that there is a possibility to be reactivated on the vaccination list,” said Flemish Member of Parliament Freya Saeys (Open Vld).

“Everyone deserves a second chance,” admitted Minister Beke. Anyone who does not accept an invitation will, according to Beke, be given a second chance, but will only be addressed “when all other groups have had their chance to receive a vaccine”.

N-VA Member of Parliament Koen Daniëls also asked how people could have themselves included in the vaccination lists again after a refusal, but this question was not answered conclusively.
