Stian «Staysman» Thorbjørnsen: – Retires after wind power criticism

Landeveiens Helter withdraws from Fosen Vind’s opening event for the wind power development in Åfjord, «Concert & safari», after strong wind power criticism, writes Adresseavisen.

Landeveiens Helter consists of Stian “Staysman” Thorbjørnsen, Rune Rudberg, Dag Ingebrigtsen and Lars Erik Blokkhus. In a Facebook comment, Thorbjørnsen states the reason for the band’s decision to withdraw:

Will avoid bad mood

– Will first say that we did not know exactly what this was about, the artist writes during a post about the concert.

Further in the post, the artist writes that it is not always easy to keep your tongue straight in your mouth when they play a hundred concerts a year, and believes a performance at the event will be in bad style when many are emotionally attached to the wind power project.

– The last thing we want to do is to get involved in a politically heated debate, and at least not contribute to creating a bad mood. Our intention was to create a good atmosphere in Åfjord municipality, Thorbjørnsen continues.

Several moves

Some of the artists who were to perform at the opening event on 12 August were Axel Frønes, Åfjord Janitsjar and Landeveiens Helter.

Now artist Axel Frønes has also chosen to withdraw from the event. In a Facebook post, he explains his decision by saying that he does not want to be involved in such a polarizing case.

– I said yes to this without thinking that it was an event that was so out of thin ice. I thought economics all the way. Cynical? Yes. But of course I do not want to be an indirect support for something that is so inflamed, Frønes writes in a Facebook post.

The artist adds that it has been a great strain to get a lot of excitement on social media from the project’s opponents.

– I have not done anything against anyone, not expressed a single opinion, and do not deserve that opponents should be nasty. But I say with this message that I withdraw from the event. And will not contribute to a bad mood, Frønes concludes the post.

First out

It was all started by conservationists and Motvind member Christina Fjeldavli when she wrote a Facebook post about the event on Monday.

Fjeldavli tells Adresseavisen that she is now happy to see more artists withdraw from the event, and also posted a post on Facebook paying tribute to the artists.

– I think there are few celebrities who have gotten involved, so then we are extra happy when they do, she says to Adresseavisen.

Too bad they withdraw

In a comment to Adresseavisen, Fosen Vind’s head of communications, Torbjørn Steen, says that it is a pity that more artists are withdrawing from the event.

– When we book artists, it is for them to solve a specific task – to entertain the audience and create a good atmosphere. This will shift the focus from the purpose, which is to thank the local community for the patience they have had through five years of construction, and to show the wind power plant that has been put into operation, Steen tells Adresseavisen.
