Author of two parades during the crucial shootout session which ended in favor of the Vitréens, Stevenn Leroux played a very important role in the qualification of AS Vitré for the 7e French Cup round.
Indeed, if Vitré is still in the running, it is largely thanks to him and his unexpected fate. Portrait of a key player in the workforce Blood and Gold.
Goalkeeper with the Stade de Reims reserve
Born in 2000 in Rennes, Stevenn Leroux, now 21 years old, tells us about his journey that brought him to Vitré.
After completing his first classes at the ASVHG (Avenir Sportif Vignoc Hédé Guipel), he continues his young career as a footballer with the TA Rennes until U17.
After these two years in Rennes, Stevenn took over the direction of Reims for studies but also for football. He is also obliged to put aside his studies to concentrate on the round ball with the reserve of Reims stadium.
A break in short-term studies since when he arrived in Vitré after these two years in Reims, he resumed his course passing BTS alternately with one of the partners of the AS Vitré club, Webhelp.
The Vitréen project
After his visit to Reims, Stevenn therefore joined AS Vitré, a club where he has been playing for two seasons now. He tells us the reasons for this choice.
“I was contacted by ASV, they presented me with the project to be number 2, and that’s what I was looking for, I didn’t especially want to find a number 1 role right away. I really liked it, because they contacted me, and it’s always flattering. On the other hand, I was looking above all for a club with stability, allowing me to last, which is my goal. “
A role of number 2 not always easy to manage, however, for the young goalkeeper who has acclimated well to the competition with Kévin Aubeneau the titular goalkeeper of ASV.
There is no rivalry between him and me. He is a great goalkeeper, he gives me a lot of advice, because he has a lot of experience and that helps me a lot.
Moreover, that has undoubtedly played in the good performances of Stevenn these last weeks. Kevin Aubeneau, injured, the Vitréen took his place in the cages where he chained the good performances especially against Pontivy in the Coupe de France.
The anecdote of the penalty shootout
During the 6e round of the Coupe de France, the goalkeeper the perfect match, performing several parries, conceding no goal for 90 minutes, and stopping two penalties during the penalty shootout.
The young porter looks back on this exercise not easy for the goalkeepers : “Shots on goal is something I love, knowing that the probability that the attacker will score is much higher than the probability that the goalkeeper will stop him. I go there without any pressure, I give everything to bring to the team. You tell yourself that it’s up to you to do the job to complete your team’s shooter who just scored. ”
As a reminder, AS Vitré fired first, and when the 5e shooter presented himself against Stevenn, it “was enough” for the Pontivy player to score to pocket the qualification, but it was without counting on the Vitréen guardian… Who didn’t even know it.
I was told afterwards, but I didn’t even know it was over if I didn’t stop him. I was so focused that I didn’t even know the score. I was giving all I could on each penalty, I saw him glance to the left, and it smiled on me this time around, so all the better.
Author of a second decisive parade putting an end to an unbearable and interminable session, luck has turned in favor of the Vitreans and this time, luck was called Stevenn Leroux.
