“Stefanos Tsitsipas’ shooting skill is there, but …” says the former number 1

One of the most promising young talents on the tour is undoubtedly the Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas. He, winner of the 2019 ATP Finals, is considered by many to be the main successor to the throne of the twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.

The two have a similar game and there are many who would like the Greek to triumph in the Grand Slams. This year 2020, the Greek tennis player (like all of us) had to face several ups and downs and had the best result at Roland Garros, where he succumbed to world number 1, Novak Djokovic, after a great fight in five sets in the semifinals.

Now everyone wants Stefanos Tsitsipas to appear in the Grand Slam final and maybe start winning, but there is something that could stop them. Former world number 1 Andy Roddick gave an interesting interview on the Tennis Channel in which he talked about a problem with the talented Greek tennis player.

The former American champion explained a problem that Tsitsipas has with regards to the Big 3, for example, consisting of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. In his “rare”, still bad days, Tsitsipas breaks down and does not win, while these champions, even when in obvious trouble, can win the match.

Roddick talks about Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is without a doubt one of the best young players on the ATP tour. But former world number 1 Andy Roddick believes Tsitsipas needs to figure out how to play better on days when he’s not 100% in order to take the next step in his development.

“At his highest level that’s out of the question. When he plays great and flies high, the ability to shoot is there,” said Andy Roddick. “I want Stefanos Tsitsipas to get better on his bad days.”

The American believes that once Tsitsipas can win more games, if he doesn’t do his best, he will keep climbing and eventually reach the top. “I think that’s the only thing that separates him from the top of the game right now, in the third area – if he doesn’t fully feel it, he doesn’t have it all,” Roddick continued.

“It’s important for him to get through this match and he may have to learn how to do it a little better.” Greece finished fourth in the 2020 ATP Cup and went 3-0 in their group matches.

After that, Tsitsipas will go to the Australian Open, which starts on February 8, where he will hope he will do better than his 2019 semi-finals.
