Steemit developers announced overcoming the “revolt of validators”

The team of the Steemit blockchain platform eliminated the consequences of the soft fork carried out by a group of validators of the Steem blockchain and took control of the network. According to the latter, they tried to prevent centralization of management.

The Steemit platform is run by community validators (Witnesses). The weight of the voice provides the number of native network tokens, turned into Steem Power, in fact – blocked in staking.

A significant amount of pre-mined coins is at the disposal of developers. The Steemit community has previously expressed concerns that this package potentially gives the platform team a decisive voice. Although she never used it.

A recent strategic partnership announcement between Steemit and the Tron Foundation reinforced validators’ concern. Part of the team’s assets was supposed to be transferred to Tron.

According to Steemit, on February 22, the Witnesses made a majority vote to amend the protocol and blocked the team’s tokens.

In the Steem community, this step is not universally understood. Some noticed that legally we are talking about theft of other people’s assets. Others noted that what happened demonstrated: leading validators can assign blocked funds to any network user.

The developers of Steemit on March 2 held a return vote, as a result of which they eliminated the consequences of the soft fork and unblocked their accounts. According to them, this became possible because the “junta of validators” did not take into account tokens that were stored in other places. An investigation by the Steem community revealed that tokens stored in the wallets of major exchanges, including Binance and Huobi, were transferred to Steem Power.

They emphasized that they had not previously used their coins for voting. Assets were directed to the development of the Steem ecosystem.

Now, with their help, the platform team took control of the network for 4-6 weeks to “restore order in the community”, effectively introducing centralized management. After this period, the developers promise to return it to the validators. During this time, they intend to “clear the blockchain of unscrupulous players, increase transparency and take into account the advice and wishes of users.”
