Steel soap against odors. Does it really work?

If you cook often, and without gloves, you will surely have noticed that some foods leave a lingering odor on your fingers. You will probably be aware of some grandma’s trick to make your hands scented again. Today, however, we want to talk to you about an often ignored kitchen utensil: the steel soap against odors. Does it really work? And if so, why? Let’s find out.

What is the steel soap bar

Onion, garlic, or fish can leave a really nasty smell on your fingers. The same can be said of substances that we do not handle in the kitchen, but when we do the cleaning: bleach, trichlorethylene, cigarette butts, etc. It is precisely to eliminate this problem once and for all that the metal soap bar, covered by an industrial patent, was invented.

It is actually a piece of steel stainless steel worked to resemble an ordinary bar of soap. To be more precise, it is made with an alloy of iron and carbon, to which chromium and nickel are added, to prevent the gadget from rusting. So be careful: do not use metal soap if you are allergic to these substances.

How to use it and why it works

The steel soap has the advantage of being practically eternal. This makes it a greener solution than other cleaners. It also has in its favor the fact that it does not attack the most sensitive skins, unlike some substances that eliminate odors. Using it is very simple: you need to rub it on your hands under running water for about half a minute. Once in a while you can put it in the dishwasher.

You will surely be left with a doubt about the steel soap bar against odors. Does it really work? According to many who have tried it, yes. Although some recommend using a natural remedy, in combination with the bar of soap. Nobody knows for sure, however, why this gadget should work. A plausible hypothesis is that under water, or in the absence of oxygen, the sulfur contained in the onion or garlic binds to the metal. If you are intrigued, you just have to try it. But you can also try to rub any steel object between your hands: you never know it works the same way!
