Stay Safe This Halloween: Tips from NYC Officials for a Spooky and Fun Holiday

NEW YORK — The fun and long-awaited for children (and spooky lovers) Halloween is just around the corner.

But while the day is usually filled with costumes, candy and fun activities, New York City officials offered some tips on how to keep yourself — and your loved ones — safe during this holiday.

First of all, the NYPD says, children must be supervised at all times during Halloween.

Additionally, if you plan to go door-to-door trick-or-treating, known as “Trick-or-Treat,” you should follow these tips:

Be alert to your surroundings; Avoid going to properties and houses that are not well lit, and where people you don’t know live; Go in a group and with at least one adult; Avoid keeping your valuable belongings or cell phones in sight; Do not use your devices while crossing the street; Include emergency contact information inside the child’s clothing, so if they get separated they can contact you. Additionally, bring a current photo of your son/daughter, and in his/her costume, to show the authorities and the public if he/she gets lost; Eat only candy and sweets that come packaged in their original packaging.
