Not only the carnival, but also colds and flu are now in high season. If you are vaccinated against flu, wash your hands frequently and keep the “cough and sneeze etiquette” when partying together, you can prevent infection. The BZgA lists hygiene rules that contribute to carefree celebrations:
- When coughing and sneezing, use a disposable handkerchief, keep your distance and turn away. Then dispose of the handkerchief. If no handkerchief is within reach, sneeze or cough in the crook of your arm.
- Do not share glass and cutlery with others, as well as lipsticks and other make-up utensils.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap regularly, especially after using the toilet, before eating, after cleaning your nose and when you come home.
- Avoid touching the face (especially mouth, eyes and nose) with unwashed hands and do not touch any food.
The head of the BZgA Dr. med. Heidrun Thaiss explains: “Anyone who suffers from a respiratory infection spreads pathogens when coughing and sneezing through tiny droplets in their surroundings. These can then be breathed in by other people and cause an illness. Also on the hands and on shared objects such as Glasses, for example, but also door handles and grab handles can spread respiratory diseases through so-called smear infections. Simple hygiene rules help to interrupt transmission chains. “
