Since 2015, the Chinese State Security has been able to determine the nationality and identity of its citizens in Switzerland if they are staying illegally in the country. Those affected are rejected asylum seekers, illegally entered people, sans papiers and similar cases.

The corresponding state treaty was not published in the official legal collection, as the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) confirmed in a report by “NZZ am Sonntag”. SEM spokesman Daniel Bach did not know why this is so.

According to the contract, the officials of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security can clarify the possible nationality of illegally present Chinese for two weeks in Switzerland “without official status”. You help the SEM with returns.

Switzerland now wants to extend the contract, which expires in December. Resistance is stirring in the Foreign Affairs Commission of the National Council.
