Arnold Schwarzenegger called on Vladimir Putin to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. In a nine-minute video posted to his Twitter account, the actor and former governor of California outlines his history and personal memories of Russia, his views on the conflict and the need to stop it.
At the end of the video, he addresses Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, directly. He said: “I tell President Putin: You started this war. You are waging this war. You can stop this war. “
Schwarzenegger, who was the first Western film star to make a film in Moscow with Red Heat in 1988, also admired protesters against the war in Russia.
The actor who played Commando said: “The world has seen your courage. We know that you have suffered the consequences of your courage. You have been arrested. You are in prison. And you were beaten. You are my new heroes. ”
Schwarzenegger also said that part of the purpose of the video was to try to make Russian soldiers better aware of the circumstances surrounding the conflict.
He also spoke about his father’s prejudices against Russia over his experiences during World War II. Schwarzenegger’s father, Gustav, was a Nazi and served in the war until he was wounded during the 1942 invasion of Russia.
In the video, Schwarzenegger says he went through his father’s anti-Russian prejudices because a person’s nationality is not important to him.
Schwarzenegger has been a frequent critic of Putin in recent years, calling former President Donald Trump a “little revolt” and a fan of the Russian leader.
