At first you only see an empty desk during this video appointment. In the background you can see the words “Federal Ministry of Finance”, next to it are a Germany and a European flag. “He’s about to be there,” a friendly female voice comforts, but then you can hear a few quick steps and Jörg Kukies hurries into the picture. The slim man with the big mouth and rimless glasses is still chewing on one last bite as he sits down. “Sorry,” he mumbles, “I haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
