The president of civil society in Goma, Marion Ngavho, welcomes the “gradual improvement” of the security situation in this city of North Kivu since July 2021. He made this assessment on Tuesday, November 2, the day after the eleventh extension by the National Assembly of the state of siege decreed in North Kivu and Ituri.

In a statement made public, this structure explains this improvement is due in particular to the closures and searches carried out in the districts and military and police camps.

Marion Ngavho also talks about the measure banning the circulation of motorcycles at night and many other positive aspects.

However, civil society notes the persistence of several security incidents, despite the establishment of the state of siege. She therefore believes that the result is not yet satisfactory.

Marion Ngavho wants the state of siege to be reassessed by making a series of recommendations to the authorities:

“We think we should stop and see what works and what doesn’t. We ask the authorities to step up operations to track armed bandits, to see the situation of the borders with Rwanda and Uganda which are porous and which facilitate the circulation of weapons. ”

The president of civil society in Goma also asks to apply fair justice and to think about the reintegration of all demobilized people.
