Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a public health emergency while officials continue to work to confirm what was described as two “presumably positive” cases of coronavirus in the state.
In a tweet published Sunday night, the state Department of Health said two adults, one in Manatee County and one in Hillsborough, were being isolated and taken care of.
The Hillsborough County patient has traveled to Italy, while the Manatee County patient did not travel to any of the areas restricted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Florida health officials said it is too early to declare that the two cases are “confirmed” to have COVID-19. “We have not yet reached that point”, Said the spokesman for the Department of Health, Alberto Moscoso. Health officials noted that a case of “presumptive positive” means that someone has tested positive in a public health laboratory and is pending “confirmatory tests” at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
