Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Pay TV users in Indonesia must be prepared to lose 18 TV channels starting October 1, 2021. This is because Disney has decided to close these broadcast channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
Launching the Variety page, Thursday (9/30/2021), most of the channels that were closed recently joined Disney from 21st Century Fox. Meanwhile, four channels will remain after the closing of October 1 later. The four are Star Chinese Channel, Star Chinese Movies, National Geographic Channel, and Nat Geo Wild.
Disney said one of the goals of the shutdown was to develop the company’s streaming service. “As part of The Walt Disney Company’s global efforts to pivot towards the first D2C model and further expand its streaming services, the company is consolidating its media network business primarily in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong,” Disney said.
The company spokesperson also confirmed that it will continue to have strong media and entertainment businesses in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
“Disney will continue to have strong media and entertainment businesses in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong that include direct-to-consumer businesses, studio entertainment, consumer products, games and publishing businesses, serving consumers and partners alike in the region,” he said.
The company’s streaming service is called Disney Plus Hotstar. Disney hopes to expand its streaming service.

It will cause kids’ mentality more worsen than before. TV cables have its own advantages, the parents guidance. Parents, and kids’ family can monitor what they watch on TV directly.
When kids’ entertainment goes to App/mobile platform, the Disney+ hotstar. The monitoring will be not effective as it was in TV. Disney+ Hotstar contains a lot of mature contains that not appropriate in children’s mental growth.
Please, if somebody read this, that have power for helping better humanity, better children’s mentality growth. Please and I beg you please make a petition for this. To protest the disney’s decision, because it will affect children’s mentality to become worse.
