Stan Wawrinka was never a great communicator, and neither will he in this life. So it was almost a revelation when he said on Friday afternoon after the hard-fought win against Australian Alex Bolt: “Playing two games in one day is not a good idea, especially for a player my age.” Shortly thereafter, he withdrew from the quarter-final against French Jérémy Chardy, which was planned just hours later.
