Ståle Solbakken, Football | Still connected to the national team job. Now Solbakken answers

Ståle Solbakken talks about the last month after he was fired from FC Copenhagen.

It has been about a month since FC Copenhagen chose to end the collaboration with their successful Norwegian coach.

However, it did not take long before Solbakken’s name appeared in the discussion about another coaching job – the job as Norway’s national team manager.

There are in fact several experts who believe that Solbakken will be highly relevant as a replacement for the current national team manager Lars Lagerbäck. There were also no fewer writings about Solbakken as a possible Lagerbäck replacement when Norway lost the important playoff match against Serbia in the Nations League last month.

I podcast «Puckpodden»Solbakken is asked if he envisages becoming Lagerbäck’s replacement when the Swede finishes his job.

– Has had more than enough to digest what happened

The former Norwegian national team player, however, claims that he has sacrificed a lot of thoughts lately.

– I have not thought about that. For me, it’s about … I have not thought of the national team at all. I’ve had more than enough to digest what happened a month ago. And in these corona times, there have been other things to think about. For my part, I have benefited from watching the sport from the side, says Solbakken.

– Are you interested if they ask?

– I am actually completely honest when I say that I have not been “there” at all, says the 52-year-old.

– Better air in Hamar than in Copenhagen

Solbakken has recently stayed at Hamar where he has taken his life in stride after an abrupt end to his coaching life in FCK.

For the time being, the Norwegian will say little about the process in connection with the firing, but suggests that he has enough on his mind for later.

– I will probably speak when that time comes, but I will probably count a little to ten and then that day will probably come as well, Solbakken says.

After a month in Hamar, Solbakken expects to return to his wife and daughter in Copenhagen during the week. He still believes that it will be Copenhagen that will be their haunt – even though he has had some nice weeks in Hamar with perfect relaxation.

– The air has been a little better in Hamar than it has been in Copenhagen for me the last month, Solbakken chuckles.

Whether it is from Hamar or Copenhagen, Solbakken, like other Norwegian football fans, can see the Norwegian national team in action this week. Next Wednesday, it is ready for a private international match between Norway and Israel at Ullevaal Stadium.

Norway will also face Romania and Austria away in the Nations League on 15 and 18 November.
