Stagnant HIV/Aids Cases, Spread in Unexpected Areas

balitribune.co.id | Gianyar – Although there are still additional cases, the number of HIV/Aids cases in Gianyar is relatively stable. It’s just that the spread of this case is precisely in unexpected areas. Ubud, which is actually a heterogeneous area, is actually overtaken by the North Gianyar area.

From the data collected, Tuesday (5/10), this year until August 2021 the number of people with HIV/Aids in Gianyar Regency increased by 8 cases, while for those infected with HIV alone there were 102 cases. This new case is dominated by productive age from 18-48 years old. The number of cases is relatively small compared to previous years.

Head of the Gianyar Health Office, Ida Komang Upeksa, said that in Gianyar there was no spike in cases like in previous years. The accumulated number of people living with HIV and Aids from 1987 to date is 9,486 cases. “Compared to 2017, for example, there were 129 cases, so with the current case there is relatively no spike and we hope there will be no new cases,” he appealed.

While the previous data, the number of cases in 2010 there were 132 cases, in 2011 there were 110 cases, in 2012 there were 85 cases, in 2013 there were 156 cases, in 2014 there were 155 cases, in 2015 there were 177 cases and in 2016 there were 36 cases. In 2017, with 129 cases, 70% were dominated by PLWHA aged 20-39 years. In 2018, there were 86 cases, in 2019 there were 177 cases and in 2020 there were 77 cases. Of the accumulation, 2.4% were toddlers, which were transmitted directly by their mothers.

Ironically, the spread of this case is dominated in North Gianyar and some in the South. In fact, from general predictions, Ubud is often suspected of having the most potential cases. Because Ubud, the people are more heterogeneous and become the center of tourism. But in fact, more cases in Gianyar above.

He added, for PLWHA there are two places for free drug services, at the Sanjiwani Hospital and the Gianyar Health Center II. During the pandemic, there were several cases that stopped taking drugs, but this has been handled directly by KPAID Gianyar. In the treatment, it is not allowed to stop the drug because once the drug is stopped, the body’s immunity will decrease.
