The organizers of this year’s edition of the Giro d’Italia do not plan to save cyclists, so in the fourth stage they will have to reach the finish line uphill. From the starting point in the town of Piacenza to the finish line in the Sestole ski resort, he completes a “package” of 187 kilometers, which will diversify even 1,800 ascending meters.

Character stages: hilly
Difficulty of the stage: ★★★☆☆
Route: Piacenza – Sestola
Stage length: 187 km
Climbing meters: 1 800 m
Stage start: 12:20

As on Monday, a two-stage stage awaits cyclists on Tuesday. The first half is completely flat, while the second half will take place in the Apennines. The fourth competition day at the Giro d’Italia 2021 will start in Piacenza, and by the time the peloton reaches the finish line in Sestola, it will have to complete three categorized climbs in addition to two sprint bonuses.

The route starts to rise about 77 kilometers after the start. In the beginning, it will really only be a very slight climb, culminating in a sprint bonus on Rossen. The riders will not breathe very much as the climb continues.

The first evaluated ascent of the third category will be Castello di Carpineti. The last two kilometers of the ascent offer an average slope of almost 11%.

A steep descent follows, but after a few kilometers the road starts to climb slightly again. The ascent gradually increases, the path winds through the forest until the “package” reaches the top of another third category mountain premium in Montemoline (length 8.6 km; slope 5.7%).

From this point, there are still about 44 kilometers left to the finish line and the racers will only look for a straight path in vain. Less than seven kilometers before the finish, the second sprinting bonus of the day awaits the riders in Fanana, after which the last, but also the most difficult “climbing” test of the stage will come. The road to Colle Passerino measures only 4.3 kilometers, but boasts an average slope of 9.9%. The last kilometers will be challenging for everyone.

At the end of this stage, it will be shown for the first time who has what form and who can think of an attack on the overall victory. The climbers in particular will fight for the stage triumph.

Peter Sagan

While Peter Sagan was one of the stage laurel favorites on Sunday and Monday, he is not expected to fight for victory on Tuesday. The second half of the planned route will not be “to his liking” and this time the rider of the BORA – hansgrohe stable will probably focus on saving energy for the next stages.

Favorites for winning the 4th stage:

João Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick Step)
Romain Bardet (Team DSM)
Pello Bilbao (Bahrain – Victorious)
Dan Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation)
Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange)
