Stabbing on Tøyen: The police have not decided on imprisonment

– DIt is important for us to praise the public’s efforts on the spot. We see that important first aid measures were taken on the victim which may turn out to be very significant, says police attorney Christian Stenberg to NRK on Sunday morning.

The police are now going through the evidence after the stabbing at Tøyen on Saturday evening.

Technical examinations have been carried out in the subway car, at the place where the accused were arrested, and in a taxi the police believe the alleged perpetrators used after the incident.

Is it a random taxi, or is it related to the case?

– There is no reason to believe that it is connected to the case, says Stenberg.

The taxi in question has now been seized, along with clothes, mobile phones and other items Stenberg does not want to comment on.

– Have weapons been seized?

– Questions related to weapons are still quite unclear, and we need a little more time before we can comment on the possible seizure of any weapons, says Stenberg.

Not produced for imprisonment

A total of five people have been charged in the case. Four of them are charged with attempted murder, while one is charged with so-called subsequent assistance.

– It is to assist, for example, people who are on the run from a criminal offence.

No decision has been taken as to whether the five will be produced for imprisonment. The police do not rule out that there may be more arrests, but will not comment further on the matter at this time.

The police reported the incident at 8.39pm on Saturday evening.

One person had suffered stab wounds. The extent of the damage is currently unknown, but the police stated on Saturday evening that it appears to be serious.

– The police know that he was quite badly injured at the scene with several stab wounds. Healthcare personnel have a duty of confidentiality and we have not yet received an exemption, so we do not have continuous updates from the hospital. From what we saw when he was picked up, it looked serious, says Stenberg.

Witness to NRK: – A blood bath

An NRK tipster who wishes to remain anonymous perceived the situation after the stabbing as very dramatic.

– The boy who was injured was sitting on the subway seat inside the carriage. He drifted and passed out, while people around tried to keep him awake. It was a bloodbath, he tells NRK.

– I have never seen anything like it and I don’t think I will ever forget it.

The tipster says that he was near Narvesen up at the subway station when he heard shouting and screaming. He then chose to walk down towards the platform.

A chaotic scene awaited.

– People were in shock. No one expected to see a young boy stabbed. There were some children present. I think it is serious that children at a young age witness such an incident, he says.

He himself experienced what he filmed and photographed as “traumatizing”.

Police chase with drone

All five accused are over legal age, while the victim is under 18. The police received a report via AMK on Saturday at 20.24 about the incident.

The Oslo police district then stated that they were quite quickly at Tøyen with relatively large forces. Among other things, a drone was used in the search for the perpetrators.

Stenberg says it was a quick action, and that the arrests took place around half an hour after the incident.

Do you know anything about what kind of environment the accused and the victim belong to?

– I believe that it has been announced to the media that those involved have had a relationship with the police. Beyond that, we do not have any information about the environment or affiliation.
