stabbing in the Place de la Republique

This is not going to help restore the image of the nightlife of Place de la République in Dijon. Two young men aged 19 and 22 are this Saturday, February 25, facing an investigating judge. They should be charged for “intentional violence with a weapon”. They were arrested on the night of Thursday to last Friday for a fight in front of the nightclub “Le Melkior”.

Their victim, an 18-year-old student, was stabbed several times “for an argument that broke out within the club about a girl” specifies the prosecutor of Dijon. It was the 22-year-old who allegedly carried out the stab wounds, and the weapon was allegedly provided by the 19-year-old. The prosecutor demands their remand in custody pending an immediate appearance before the court which would take place on Monday.

The injured young student was rescued by the police. His life is not in danger, but he gets away with 28 days off work.

Fewer fights lately

Since December 6, 2022, bars in Place de la République must close at 2 a.m., compared to 5 a.m. previously. A measure that does not affect nightclubs. The Prefecture of Côte-d’Or
had justified its decision by the census in the first half of 121 acts of delinquency and around thirty assaults in the first half of 2022.
Since last December, the police have been present every night at the end of the week in this central square in Dijon, and there has been no further question of attacks until then.
