Spring storm Evert causes an estimated 30 million euros in damage | NOW

Spring storm Evert caused about 30 million euros in damage on Thursday, the Dutch Association of Insurers reports on Friday in a preliminary estimate of the damage.

The damage was mainly caused to buildings, household effects and vehicles of private individuals and companies. The damage reports come from all over the country, but especially the coastal areas, Zeeland and the north of the Netherlands were affected by the spring storm.

Insurers identify fallen trees and flying branches, roof tiles and debris as the causes of damage. One was fatally killed victim: a hiker was hit by a falling tree in Bemelen, Limburg.

Damage to agriculture, horticulture and government property is not included in the estimate. The Dutch Association of Insurers therefore believes that the amount of the damage will increase.

Spring storm Evert was the first official storm of the year on Thursday. Summer storm Ciara caused an estimated € 80 million in damage in July 2020.

Turbulent weather persists

Just like Thursday, the weather is also turbulent across the country on Friday. The morning starts largely dry, but by early afternoon showers spread across the country with a chance of hail, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The sun shines every now and then between showers. In a fairly strong to strong southwest wind it will be 7 to 9 degrees.

In the evening the mood decreases and the temperature drops to about 4 degrees. On Saturday morning it will rain heavily again.
