1 – See if the proposed activity is regulated
In France, all sports activities managed by the Ministry of Sports are regulated.
If a nurse must be in possession of her diploma to practice, it is the same for sports coaches. So, the only question to ask yourself is whether the activity you want to set up is attached to the Ministry of Sports.
You say to yourself, easy, vou know how to recognize a sport after all.
So, if I tell you that only two of the following activities are attached to the Ministry of Sports:
Yoga / Pilates / Zumba / Dancing

Pilates and Zumba depend on the Ministry of Sports, so you need a sports coach diploma to teach. While Yoga and Dance depend on the Ministry of Culture so no need for a diploma …… wait no, it’s not that simple ????
We will start with Yoga because it is easy, the activity is not regulated. So if I, Geoffrey, want to teach Yoga, I can. But on the other hand, I strongly advise against it because I know absolutely nothing about it. So Yoga is not regulated, of course, but take qualified teachers.
For Dance, it is more complicated because only Contemporary, Jazz and Modern Dances are regulated and require a diploma for teaching. For all the others, it’s free. As with Yoga, pay attention to the CVs of the teachers you hire.
2 – Check the diplomas of your sports coach in business
At this point, you are probably wondering what the name of the sports educator diploma is. And again, it’s not that simple …
Yesterday State Patent, today BPJEPS, the name of sports educator diplomas change over time, and in addition, there are equivalences.
I will try to make a summary as simple as possible.
The classic diploma is the BPJEPS of sports educator. It comes in several specializations depending on the sport offered, pay attention to this point.
A cut above exists the DEJEPS and DESJEPS which also allow to exercise the profession of sports educator in their specialty. Who can do more, can do less after all.
Finally, the DEUG STAPS is another diploma which makes it possible to supervise fitness-type sports activities.
