The Post Sportplatz in Hernals is usually very busy on weekends, but the lockdown has been in place since November. The children who usually play soccer here have to stay outside. Parents have little understanding that their children are not allowed to exercise.
“Through the school, through all the tests that are now available anyway, the children are always tested. And there is the possibility that you will let them out of here now, ”says player father Andreas Hager to“ Vienna today ”. “They only sit at home in an extremely unhealthy posture and everything related to sport is gone. Life’s purpose stolen, in the end, ”says Stephan Kapf, also a player’s father.
Trainer: “We could also do the tests here”
The coach of the young team considers training with distance rules and tests to be easy to carry out. “We could also do the tests here. That’s not difficult. And without us using the rooms, cabins and so on, that we come straight to the square dressed. And we can hold our training there, ”says soccer coach Cemil Sari.
Outdoor sport called for
More and more sports clubs, parents and children, as well as psychologists, are calling for football pitches and the like to be opened. Exercise also reduces stress, experts say. Sitting in lockdown also promotes poor posture.

“There is something in between”
Club operations with restrictions are also conceivable on the square of the Sportunion Wien-West. Everything is not possible, but “between not at all and full operation there is something in between. And I believe that a lot is possible there. We have already presented a lot of concepts on the part of sport, ”says Thomas Dworak, the chairman of the Sportunion West-Wien to“ Wien heute ”. His postscript: But Sports Minister Werner Kogler and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (both Greens) “don’t get on it.”
In addition to the well-known advantages of exercise, the sports psychologist emphasizes that children also benefit from it in other areas. “Sport can reduce stress. Sport generally contributes to balance. If I now sit at home a lot as a schoolboy, then exercise stimulates the circulation. Which in turn means that I have a better sleep ”, says sports psychologist Georg Hafner.
