Sponsor Outdoor Activities with a View: The Municipality Pushes Forward

DASS IN PLACE: Anyone who is not tempted to a quiet moment in such surroundings either has a fear of heights or outdoor phobia.

High up in the Aurlandsfjella in Indre Sogn, you can relax on municipal outdoor patios while enjoying the view of the deep fjord and high mountains.

The prosperous power municipality Aurland has granted NOK 100,000 for the construction of four new, flowing outdoor doors in traditional style, write the local newspaper Parish newspaper.

The outdoors were recently deployed in the mountain home, airlifted by helicopter both inside and outside the well-known world heritage area by the Nærøyfjorden.

Both mayor Trygve Skjerdal (Sp) and project manager Bengt Erlend Skjerdal, father and son by the way, are proud of the external dose investment.

THE PROJECT MANAGER: Bengt Erlend Skjerdal has pushed the hardest to get the outdoor project in Aurland done.

– Imagine sitting comfortably – with the door open inside the outdoor shed – while you enjoy the view and it’s pouring rain outside, the mayor fantasizes while sitting at home in the living room and watching skiing on TV.

Bengt Erlend Skjerdal takes it as a matter of course that the mayor will come up to the mountain and clip the cord during the solemn opening of the utedoan later this spring.

DINGLEDO: A private helicopter took care of the lifting of the utedo high up in the mountain.

– With extensive mention of the outsiders – are they waiting for dokø and a race like no other?

– It probably won’t happen. But we have registered increasing traffic in the mountainous area where these outhouses are located. Especially at Hovdung in Aurlandsdalen, there are quite a few people. So the need for this offer is there, answers project manager Skjerdal.

– Would you advise people to sit with the door open to enjoy the view?

– It is entirely up to the users. But on one of the patios, the entrance door is facing the wrong way in relation to the best view. But it’s nice to look the other way as well, adds Skjerdal.

MUST BE FIXED: A good foundation is needed so that the outdoor area is not blown away by the wind in the rugged mountains, notes project manager Bernt Erlend Skjerdal.

– Emptying out doors is a chapter in itself. Who will be responsible?

– It is the two vein associations of both Aurlandsdalen and Nærøyfjorden that have taken on this responsibility, answers Bengt Erlend Skjerdal.

Both he and Skjerdal senior, i.e. the mayor, emphasize that it is important to properly dig pits and cover the contents with earth, peat and stone.

SNORKLYPPAR: Mayor Trygve Skjerdal (Sp) in Aurland must book a mountain trip later this spring to take care of the official opening of the municipally sponsored outdoor facilities.

– Why have they settled on traditional architecture rather than a more modern expression?

– It is completely deliberate, according to project manager Skjerdal.

– We would like to preserve the old Norwegian outdoor culture in this project, he adds.

Skjerdal does not disregard that the outdoor areas are also equipped with good reading material in addition to adequate amounts of soft toilet paper.

It is currently unknown whether, as in many outdoor doors in the kingdom, pictures of members of the royal house are planned in the four outdoor doors.
