Take a pianist in residence at Radio France. Choose a second pianist, regularly invited by Radio France. Introduce them to a Russian composer named Rachmaninoff, who was at least as famous in his time as a pianist and a composer, and offer them to play two early scores of the said composer and the transcription for two pianos of the last score by the same composer : the result is dazzling.

The Moldau, or the story of one of the most famous themes in music… The Moldau is the name by which Smetana’s symphonic poem is known, evoking the river that runs through Bohemia and majestically crosses Prague. The source of the Moldau, its peaceful course, its nocturnal shimmers, the rapids it crosses, Smetana treats the subject with an incredible instrumental luxury. Jean-François Zygel will tell us all about the why and how of this music which pays homage to the river that the Czechs call “Vltava”.
