Choosing to stay on a team one night turned out to be a giant mistake that consumed an entire night of my playing time during launch week. Splatoon 3 it has stuck me in an absurd expectation improve he clocked between three and five minutes, but sometimes it took well over 10. I once waited so long that the timer in the corner, which indicates the seconds, had hit 999. The game didn’t stop. search after 999 seconds, the clock could not go higher. I waited another good ten minutes before I could get out of that hell.
Since there is no way to withdraw from matchmaking once I started on the leaderboard, I was stuck there if I didn’t want to incur a penalty. (What I can see, at least, I’ve been told that the “start” button appears and disappears for other people.) So far, I’ve won about eight points per win, and it’s been a couple of hundred before I was able to move up. level: I didn’t really want to make this effort more difficult than it should be. Maybe the drop is small, but that’s not quite the point here. I shouldn’t lose anything because the game itself somehow i can’t connect to another player. It’s especially ridiculous when we know there are people playing at any given moment; as of this writing, the game has just launched last week!
There is nothing worse Splatoon 3 rather than finishing a game, quickly press A to cycle through the menus because you want to skip another one and accidentally agree to stay on the team. It kept happening to me over and over which was irritating because I couldn’t cancel matchmaking. The only thing I could do was actively hope that the game would encounter an error or crash (!!!).
I later learned that this is a known issue that existed with Splatoon 3 before launch, as Nintendo gave advice during its first Splatfest event. At the time, they told people to put their console into sleep mode and then try again. The answers were full of people who had been stuck in the matchmaking lobby for so long, their characters had inked the entire lobby. I cannot.
That event dates back to August. They clearly haven’t solved it, because I’ve just experienced the problem of endless waiting. “We apologize for the inconvenience,” Nintendo wrote.
Arguably, this was an exceptional but rare experience that doesn’t reflect what I normally do Splatoon 3. But you have to remember that things “run smoothly” in context here still mean I tend to disconnect every handful of games!
“What did you expect”, you might think, “it’s a Nintendo game”. Outside of Splatooninfamous first party series like Smash Bros. they never managed to fully decipher online multiplayer, although in that case the community persisted because the tournament culture is largely local. But even that scene has its limits. At some point in 2020, And Smash Bros.. The community got the #fixultimateonline trends. Not sure if the title of r / smashbros’ highly curated 2021 Reddit thread has improved much, “You have played an online game worse than Smash Ultimate؟Meanwhile, when Nintendo tried to switch to online features, it somehow always succeeds To make things as complex as possible. With anything connected to the internet, this is the only case where the upcoming conference is Nintendo’s preferred course of action.
There was little reason to hope, even if perhaps stupid Splatoon 3. In August 2022, data miners claimed that the alternative shooter would have an “internal server system” which would be an upgrade, but speculated that it would likely remain peer-to-peer. It’s not exactly the most complex type of .net code out there, because usually, if someone unsynchronizes, everything is broken. To Nintendo’s credit, I have experienced fewer cases of game lag while progressing games than previous games, or the game freezes completely while trying to catch up. When it works, it works great! But the edges are still incredibly rough.
Kotaku I contacted Nintendo to ask for information SplatoonCompany connection problems, but the company offers an online solution. Spoiler: Security experts say it’s terrible. For whatever reason, Nintendo’s official support pageIt currently directs people to open all ports on the router, which is roughly equivalent to removing the firewall. Doing it right can improve your online experience, but it also compromises your security. Nintendo approach?
The page says, “While Nintendo provides this information to our customers for their use, it is up to each consumer to determine their own security needs for their networks and how best to configure network settings to meet those needs.”
Anyway, I can’t believe it’s been seven years of this nonsense. The worst part and why get away with it? I will keep playing as there is no one else in the shooting range that really offers this optional fashion-focused killing experience Splatoon he did.
