Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is due to be released for PlayStation 5 in 2020, is not a full sequel, but rather a stand-alone expansion in the style of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. In this article, we want to explain what could await us in the story and the gameplay and who Miles Morales is.
Miles Morales, der Ultimate Spider-Man
Miles, created by comic book authors Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, first appeared in Ultimate Comic # 00 in 2011. The stories in this series, which has since been completed, took place in the so-called Ultimate Universe and were aimed at comic novices with modern versions of classic Marvel heroes.
After Spider-Man (Peter Parker) died fighting the Green Goblin, a new spider-man appeared shortly afterwards: Miles Morales. He wants to follow in Peter’s footsteps, but still has to learn what it means to be a hero.
Miles emerges from Peter’s shadow in the PlayStation 5 game
Let’s start with the story of the title. This will start about a year after the end of the predecessor and let us explore New York in winter. Appropriately, the metropolis was wrapped in a white dress and fine snowflakes fall from the sky. It remains to be seen whether all of this will have a playful impact.

The fact that some time has passed since part 1 is of course also made clear by Miles’s new outfit. As in the comics or the animated film Spider-Man: A New Universe, it should now also be time for Miles to become a hero in the PS5 game. To encourage his protégé, Peter reminds him of his father’s words: “A hero is someone who never gives up.”
Our junior superhero will have to face a number of hurdles, as he will have to find out what kind of hero he wants to be. Miles’ creator Brian Michael Bendis told in one Interview about his character’s early Spidey experience that he was “a kid on a discovery tour trying to figure out why he should be Spider-Man.” A tricky question that should keep him and us busy while playing the PS5.
Which opponents are standing in the way of Miles on PS5?
In addition, a superhero needs worthy opponents, of course, and although Miles hasn’t been in the business too long, he has already crossed the path with some interesting criminals. Probably there will be an appearance of the Prowler in the game, under whose mask Miles’ uncle is hiding. The plot line around the Prowler is one of the best known around our young Spider-Man and is ideal for the game.
What makes the Prowler so interesting is, of course, first of all his personal relationship with our hero, which has a lot of potential for an exciting story. However, Miles will most likely not only have to deal with one villain, but will have to fight several villains – similar to Peter in the PS4 game. In addition to Prowler, Lana Baumgartner aka Bombshell would also be a good choice.
Lana formed a bank robber duo with her mother for a while in the comics. Bombshell is particularly useful for the history of the PS5 game, as she and Miles could go through a similar development. Insomniac could revise Lana for her game and show how both she and Miles become heroes.
Of these, her costume often has pink as the dominant color and this is known to be seen several times in the trailer. Of course, that doesn’t have to mean anything, but it would be a nice first teaser for a performance by Lana in the game. Alternatively, it would also be conceivable that the villains that Miles is fighting in the trailer and that belong to the two enemy groups have a connection to Oscorp.
Miles has unique Spider-Man powers
What is already certain for this is that Miles will have to mobilize all his strength to defend his city. Fortunately, he can rely on a variety of super powers. Some of them also have Peter (superhuman endurance, strength & speed as well as the arrogance), some others have Miles exclusively, which should playfully distinguish him from Peter.
Miles can manipulate the bioelectrical field of living things, so give them electric shocks! While he sting with his Venom we see in the trailer, Paralyzing opponents, he completely blows enemies with the Venom Blast. For the latter, Miles has to be under a lot of stress and have to recover after the execution. The Venom Blast offers itself as an ultimate attack and opens up new stealth opportunities for us in the PS5 game.
