Spanish police seized ancient gold jewelry worth 64 million dollars, stolen from Ukraine. The thieves were caught trying to sell the jewels in Madrid.
Jewelry has an exceptional cultural value. The 11 jewels are from the Scythian era and were part of the collection of the museum in Kyiv between 2009 and 2013. According to the police, they were taken out of the country in 2016.

Three Spanish and two Ukrainian citizens were detained during the action. Authorities in Spain began the investigation when one of the pieces of jewelry, a gold belt engraved with ram’s heads, was sold in 2021. Investigators say the thieves had false documents claiming the jewelry was owned by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
