Spanish Pharmaceutical Announces Ready Medicine to Combat Coronavirus |

Spain.- The Spanish pharmaceutical company Pharmamar reported, through a statement, that it has carried out tests with one of its drugs, with the commercial name Aplidin, to combat the coronavirus.

According to the company, studies with this drug, also known as plitidepsin, an antitumor drug, “have turned out to be positive.”

According to the firm, the studies were ‘in vitro’ and were carried out at the National Center for Biotechnology of the Superior Center for Scientific Research (CSIC), in Madrid.

The studies were carried out on the human coronavirus HCoV229E, “which has a multiplication and propagation mechanism very similar to covid19”.

With these results, PharmaMar intends to contact regulatory authorities to analyze the possibilities of studies in patients infected with covid-19.

It is revalued in the stock market
After releasing the news, there was an avalanche of purchase orders for the drug, which led the company to block its listing on the stock exchange for three hours, which after resuming had rises of up to 80%, the newspaper de Spanish economy Expansion.

The same thing happened days before, when Phamamar announced that it had obtained the green light to commercialize the diagnostic tests for the coronavirus.

After that announcement, the company achieved a 15% appreciation in the stock market.

Currently, Spain is one of the countries outside of China that has been hit hardest by the coronavirus outbreak. This Friday, March 13, this country registers 4,209 cases and 120 deaths.
