Spain on Wednesday announced it was joining an initiative approved the day before to purchase one million artillery shells for Ukraine during the year.
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Spain, which is available “European truth“.
“After completing the necessary administrative formalities, the Minister of Defense (of Spain – ed.) signed on Wednesday a project agreement on the joint purchase of ammunition within the European Union,” it says.
Thus, Spain became the nineteenth country participating in the project.
Recall, on March 20, the Council of the European Union approved the plan providing Ukraine with one million artillery ammunition.for a total of 2 billion euros.
Its purpose is, firstly, increase in supplies artillery ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine; secondly, the introduction of joint purchases of European states and the acceleration of their pace to replenish their own stocks; thirdly, the rapid increase in the production capacity of the European defense industry.
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Norway signed the agreement at the same time.
As reported, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba considers the EU decision on the plan to provide Ukraine with one million artillery ammunition a strategic move that brings victory closer.
As a reminder, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó confirmed on Monday that his state will not participate in the project.
