Spain communicates lowest number of corona deaths in a month | NOW

In the last 24 hours, 410 new coronavirus-infected deaths were reported in Spain, the lowest number in a month, according to the Spanish Ministry of Health.

The number of people dying daily is still high in Spain, but it is now far below the record number of 950 deaths reported on April 2.

On Saturday, 565 deaths were reported. After the United States and Italy, Spain is the third country to suffer more than 20,000 deaths from the corona virus.

The number of confirmed infections in Spain rose from 191,726 to 195,944 on Sunday.

Sanchez: ‘Extremes are behind us’

The number of new deaths and confirmed infections thus seems to be stabilizing. According to the Spanish Ministry of Health, the severe measures in the country clearly have a stabilizing effect on the figures.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Saturday that he would ask parliament to extend the measures until May 9. However, the measures will be relaxed somewhat, so that, for example, children may occasionally go outside.

“The extremes are behind us,” Sanchez said at a news conference on Saturday. “But this is not enough and we remain vulnerable. We should not make hasty decisions.”

The state of emergency that applies in Spain is strictly enforced. Last week, there were already 330,000 people who had been fined or imprisoned for not following the rules.
