SOVA HARRIS: 58.4% of left-wing people in Bulgaria think that Ninova should be replaced at the BSP congress – 2024-02-24 01:28:48

/View.info/ The data are from a survey representative of the adult population of the country, conducted by SOVA HARIS in the period 30.01.-03.02.2023 among 1042 Bulgarian citizens using the standardized telephone interview method. The study was commissioned by PIK.BG.

The majority of people who define their political views as left or centrist (58.4%) believe that the mandate of the current leader of the socialists should be terminated at the upcoming BSP congress. Apparently, the series of poor election results shows that the line maintained by Kornelia Ninova has run out. There is still a party nucleus behind the current model (28.5%), but according to the research, these people are twice as few as those who want change.

In itself, changing the leader of a party on the eve of an election carries risks. Nevertheless, the majority of left- and centrist-oriented voters (47.8%) are of the opinion that if the socialists unite around a new leader at the upcoming BSP congress, they will achieve a higher result. At the same time, 37.7% do not support this idea.

The assessment of how the attitude of the current BSP leadership towards the president will affect the upcoming parliamentary elections is very definite. According to 53.8% of voters in this sector, the effect will be negative. Only 8.3% are of the opinion that the confrontation of the Socialist Party with President Radev will have a positive impact.

For now, the configuration between representatives of BSP, “Stand Up.BG”, ABV, “Dvizhenie 21” and others. generates considerable interest among potential voters. The decisions of the BSP congress will determine to what extent this potential will be used. Currently, almost half (49.7%) of potential voters state that under certain circumstances they would vote for the new Left coalition.

The fact that the anti-European party “Vazrazhdane” (53.4%) is indicated in the study as a possible coalition partner for it after the parliamentary elections speaks for the isolation in which the BSP has fallen. “Bulgarian Rise” (31.5%) and “Democratic Bulgaria” (25.6%) are also listed as eligible coalition partners.

The possible pre-election alliance between “Continuing the Change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” is not unequivocally accepted by the voters in the right sector. Still, 41% are in favor, showing that the merger has serious potential. Another 21.8% are against it, but let’s not forget that in this part of the political space GERB voters are also self-determining. A third still cannot judge.

The data from the present study show that the leaderships of both formations have to make significant efforts to unite their supporters.

The looming fragmentation of the political space does not create opportunities for post-election interaction of the new union. According to the voters, the most likely partner could be GERB, but indicated by only 17.6%. “Bulgarian Rise” (15.9%) and BSP (12.5%) are also indicated as possible post-election partners. According to these results, for voters on the right there are currently no suitable coalition partners for the political formation they support.
