GDDKiA has great news for drivers in Warsaw: two sections of the Southern Ring Road of Warsaw along the S2 expressway will be passable this year. In the second quarter of 2021, drivers should also use the last, third section, passing through the tunnel under Ursynów. Then the Warsaw Road Junction will be completed in three quarters.

The last meters of the bottom slab in the tunnel and three technological holes in the ceiling remain to be concreted. The temporary supports under the subway tunnel in the southern aisle have already been demolished and are being removed in the northern aisle. The advancement of works on the first section of S2 is 81 percent. – reports on the progress of GDDKiA’s work.

The bottom slab, which was designed for about 1/2 of a tunnel with a length of about 2.3 km, was 98% concreted. and in 100 percent armed. An entire intermediate ceiling was also made in the deepest part of the tunnel, at a length of approx. 600 meters. Reinforced concrete wall fillings, emergency passages, arched ceilings, internal pavement structures, an intermediate ceiling in the central technological nave (approx. 60% were completed) and alarm niches as well as tunnel drainage, etc. are built.

Laying of the pavement structure layers on the west side of the tunnel has also started. In the northern aisle, stabilization of the substrate and drainage layer are performed.

On the surface, successive segments of the ceiling are backfilled, and the previously existing layout of streets and parking lots is restored. Drivers already use new sections of the road at ul. Płaska, Stryjeński and the Brothers Wagów. Work is underway to restore traffic to ul. Broth.

At the intersection of Płaska and Gandhi streets, street lighting and traffic lights have been installed and connected. In the pedestrianized area of ​​ul. Broth rainwater drainage is performed. Paving works are being carried out.

The tunnel is half of the first section, and on the remaining 2.3 km of the route, finishing works are underway at the engineering structures at the Warszawa Ursynów junction (construction of reinforced soil retaining walls, strengthening of abutment cones and embankment slopes).
