Corona outbreak in Dutch prison: 700 prisoners in lockdown

Zaanstad prison is a large prison with five clusters. These are in turn divided into departments, and six of those departments are currently in quarantine because multiple infections with the corona virus have been identified, 37 in total.

Due to the quarantine measures, about 700 prisoners are now in quarantine. This means that they are not allowed to leave their department, go to their workplace, participate in activities and receive visitors. However, they are allowed to relax, cook and air.

According to the prison director, about thirty percent of the inmates have been vaccinated. But there are no official figures, because only inmates who have received a corona jab in prison are registered.

There have also been many corona outbreaks in prisons in our country. Among others in those of Ghent, Hasselt, Dendermonde, Bruges, Merksplas and Namur.
