Because of his high popularity, the temple has become more famous. Even the tickets for the experience activities held by the temple were sold out by fans within 4 hours.
A “Bangjing monk” named “Flower Monk” at Hwayansa Temple in Jirisan Mountain, Chiju City, Jeollanam Province, South Korea, often shares Buddhist teachings and shows records of his participation in zazen and other spiritual activities on Instagram. Because of his clean and sunny appearance, he has attracted the attention of a large number of young fans on the Internet. In just one year since the social platform was launched, he has gained 29,000 followers.
Monk Fanjing mentioned in an interview that when he was more than 10 years old, he became a monk according to his parents’ wishes and has been living in the temple since then. Later, due to the epidemic, many pilgrims were unable to go to the temple to worship, so he decided to open a social platform in 2020 to allow more people to come into contact with Buddhism.
Afterwards, Monk Fanjing also said that he took the name “Flower Monk” because he believed that practitioners should be like flowers, exuding the deepest fragrance. Therefore, he determined to become a flower, a monk who behaved like a flower and could spread the truth.
