The mayor of the city of Viana do Castelo today said the Two have received in the provision of municipal services with a request that the notice of a promoter, a foreign person interested in the land to a company for carpets was founded in the early 60’s.

Are the 13 million square feet of land, located at the northern entrance of the city, next to the National Road (EN), in which it is located the warehouse of the company Somartis, which was founded in the late ‘ 60s by a belgian engineer who came to work as a consultant for the methods of work, in the defunct Naval Shipyards of Viana do Castelo (ENVC).
At the time, the company is highly sought after by the spaniards, it was a carpet factory that has been turned off. Currently, it works only as a store for selling the tapestry and arts and crafts.
In the early 80’s, to the stake of the entrepreneur in the presentation of rare animals such as tigers, llamas, monkeys, among others, was the reason why in real architecture the Somartis.
Contacted by Lusa, the mayor of the city of seattle has admitted to being “it is important to revitalize one of the city”.
“This is an area of land that is significant, which is not to monetize it to make sense for there to be a design to revitalize the existing urban fabric of the area in which it is situated, that the old plant of the carpet. He currently has no activity in it for a couple of years ago,” he said.

Contacted by Lusa, the son of the owner of the company, Somartis, Johan Stevens, explained, “there is a proposal from a promoter of the real estate from the Dutch to the investment related to the food service, hospitality and food sector, but also that the sale is dependent on the outcome of the project, which was entered in the local authority”.
“It’s not just the premises of the company, as to all of the land to be used in the environment. The negotiations are ongoing,” he said.
The company Somartis in 2001, the last of the dealership’s lift of St. Lucia before we purchased, renovated, and reopened by the city of Viana do Castelo, in 2007.
In the immediate vicinity of the company is situated in the former slaughter house in Viana do Castelo, the local authority plans to transform it into the archive hall.
Since 2004, it is the intention of the Chamber of Viana do Castelo, in converting the former municipal slaughterhouse, turned off, for decades. The building was opened in 1926 and is now in an advanced state of decay.
